Mme de Gua is instantly suspicious of Marie, not to mention extremely jealous. One can hardly imagine him writing more accurate people.

At the start of the story the Chouans in support of the Royalists attack the Republicans led by Commander Hulot and they attract many of the local peasants to their cause. However, Balzac quickly alienated me by making this a love story in the midst of war.

Parallel to this chouasn is Francine and Marche-a-Terre who are also in love under the same predicament. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. He wandered around the city, taking in details to use in his descriptions of the landscape. Read it here Summary by Lisa Hill.
