Meanwhile, Alexandra is flattering Curtis with wilwdood fancy uniform and wildowod him into the coyote army as an officer. After cracking open the first couple pages I was swept into the seedlings of a great adventure.

She is accompanied by her classmate, Wildwoid, a nerd with a fairly obvious crush on her, though why he likes her is anyone’s guess. Once in the wilderness, Prue and Curtis encounter all sorts of interesting creatures, including talking animals.

She squares off with a faerie queen, but unlike the Dowager, the Queen just wants a baby for company; Wentworth will probably be neglected once the capricious Queen gets bored of being a mom, but no one is going to murder the child. North Wood and South Wood are separated by Wildwood, an untamed no man’s land filled with bandits and ostensibly wild coyotes.

In the woods, they are quickly confronted by bipedal, clothed, musket-toting, talking coyotes, who attack them. Amazon Restaurants Food delivery from local restaurants. The illustrations didn’t resonate with me, save the one of the St. I think it took me 2. It was just really fun overall!

What an enjoyable read this was. Sadly, tragically, unhappily, it did not. I stuck it out because they are local, and the buzz around here has been huge.

Nov 29, Carmine rated it it was ok Recommends it for: I really feel like this is a book that needed to undergo at least one more major rewrite before it was published, and I’m sad that it didn’t, because I think it could have been much, much better. It takes place in the “Impassable Wilderness” of Widwood. Johns Bridge does appear briefly, as the Ghost Bridge, conjured by a rune magic spell. The bandits are threatened by the Dowager Governess’ ivy, as well as the whole forest, and so he is cornered into having to fight along the citizens of North Wood and Prue.

Curtis Mehlberg is a year-old, and a seventh grade classmate of Prue’s, though not her close friend at the beginning of Wildwood. It can work to play to your strengths, as it most assuredly did here.

And so, in the closing pages, when Prue emerges from the wilderness, to return to the reality of urban life, much to her parents’ joy, I was nothing but melancholy. It took me a while to finish it, not because it was a difficult read, but because it was quite long at parts and got slightly tedious to get through certain events. I’m curious about the mystery involving Curtis and his ability to enter the wilderness and what that means about his background.

A stereotypical view of Portland’s youth culture is expressed through Prue, Curtis and Prue’s parents. Prue flies to North Wood on the back of an eagle sent by Owl Rex, but is shot down by a coyote archer. In general, Wildwood is a lovely and very cozy tale that doesn’t lack adventure and thrill even despite being cozy like that.
