There are entertaining stories throughout the book that are used to illustrate how social engineering can be used to gain access to information that would be secure if it wasn’t for weaknesses in the human element of the system.
The anecdotes are more interesting than entertaining, and all proceed by the same b I suspect that if you’re reading for entertainment, then you probably want Mitnick’s The Art of Intrusion or Ghost in the Wires instead. I work in InfoSec, and found this to be an excellent history lesson, with a few instances and situations where the human element of security threats still exist, such as the types of scams run to gain physical access.

There are a lot of systems that rely on either passwords or some type of gatekeeper to keep information secret. Save your credit or money for Kevin Mittnick’s other book, Ghost in the Wires. Then you figure out who’s allowed to ask those people about specific clients banks. It’s certainly likely that The Art of Deception has done and will continue to do more good than harm, which is more than can be said for most popular books on any kind of security.
The bulk of this book consists of different stories of social engineers getting their job done, followed by advice on how to avoid such kinds of attacks. As a nerdy kid growing up I was fascinated by computers and the then-emerging Internet. All in all, an interesting book.

Another great book on cybersecurity by Kelvin Mitnick. Fine, more straightforward, if you’re in security it’s definitely worth reading otherwise I’d read Ghost In The Wires since they’re basically the same book.

We know passwords or encrypted files can be cracked. Level out at 3 stars. All businesses go through difficult times, but how you, as the owner, because doing so models positive ways of handling interactions with clients.
Want to Read saving…. The guide, like all such specifications, is deadly dry and would require several readings and much thought to mitnic internalize. I’ll probably buy this book simply because of the security policy information and the easy-to-understand business cases that are easily comprehendible due to their storylike nature.
