Just when I didn’t think Millman could surpass his first book, The Way of the Peaceful Warrior, the book that truly changed my life and outlook on the universe. The inspiring journey of The Celestine Prophecy and The Tenth Insight continues, carrying us to a new adventure and new spiritual truths socratess are now emerging in human awareness.
Millman’s narration clips along, and he does a fine job with period flourishes. When a sudden death forces Sergei to flee, In nineteenth-century Tsarist Russia an orphaned child born of Jewish and Cossack blood grows up in a land of wealthy aristocrats, struggling peasants, and growing discontent.
A stirring story emerges as Sergei encounters mentors and masters who reveal secrets about the arts of war and, ultimately, the path to peace. No great socratees insights as such, but fills in some of the blanks from the Peaceful Warrior book very nicely. A shocking surprise about the fate of Sergei’s unborn child and a ham-fisted meeting between Sergei and his rival strain credibility, but Millman’s fluid storytelling makes this an easy read.
Full of inspiration and joy the Journey of Socrates soceates simply compelling. This is a decent story of adventure, loss, and a man growing up in Tsarist Russia. He is pitted against a powerful enemy named Zakolyev, aka Gregor Stakkos, a military school rival who became an antisemitic Cossack gang leader. Thank you, Dan Millman, for writing this book. I found the interaction between characters to be forced at best and flat out fake at worst, especially between soc and socrstes love interest. Very dark in places but when it was all over, it was amazing how everything was interwoven and connected. I am a martial arts instructor and already praising it to all my students and friends. It is so different from any of your other works but despite being a novel the lessons of life are still there for us stalwarts. From the moment I started reading I was intoxicated by the story.
Overall I thought it was a good book but I think part mullman could have been condensed quite a bit.

We’re taken through Sergei’s grieving process and are ultimately led to a Christian monastery where he finds a mentor agreeing to train him for his revenge. The odyssey that unfolds is not about the revolutions of history, but about the revolution in one man’s heart.
