Mahabharata is a story which always leaves me wanting mo Awesome were past few days spent with this book. I sometimes get bored by the various stories and sub stories. Also, this book is literally ‘illustrated’ with his line drawings which are simple yet evocative.
Review: Jaya by Devdutt Pattanaik – Aromas of Incandescent Reveries
Mahabharata, if we look objectively and read its nuanced versions, is quite gory and violent, just like the world happens to be. This ending is the reason the book was originally called Jaya by Vyasa. Our generation is doing exactly the same. There were different regional versions of the Sanskrit Mahabharata too, more than One keeps you in Swarga; the other raises you into Vaikuntha.
As a stylist and story-teller, he rarely improves on the original and frequently falls behind it. Jaya is more of an academic take on the epic. I am glad I picked this up. This story, whose nitty-gritties I’ve known forever thanks to my Mom’s storytelling when we were childrenand yet I was running to get back to it.
Still above is Vaikuntha, heaven, abode of God.
Review: Jaya by Devdutt Pattanaik
I have already read the Mahabharata and I’m following lessons with a Swamini about the Eevdutt Gita, so I know there is a lot more and deeper meanings but “Jaya” is really a very good book. For that, we should first consume our mythology, religion without any refreshed dose of conclusions which suit our present day needs.
Dec 16, Anubhav rated it it was amazing Shelves: Mahadev is based on his work [34] [35] [36] and Epic channelwhere he presents Devlok with Devdutt Pattanaik. His first book Shiva: Pattnaik’s retelling of the Mahabharata is narrated in a simple manner, through the lens of present day wisdom but with an awareness of its absence in the past. Am not a fan of Pattanaik’s tone, though I’ve liked the subject matter of his stories.
Devdutt Pattanaik is a master story-teller, as his several books on Indian mythology testify.

I don’t always judge a book by its cover but in this case, the cover just lured me in. The author has delivered the book in a very readable format with engaging illustrations in each chapter. The book started devudtt as it provided devxutt fresh and clear take on Mahabharata without rationalizations and without apology. A must for religion aficionados. The book is organized in a really helpful way. Devdutt Pattanaikmeet your latest die-hard fan: Personally, I don’t see it that way.
Also, the story can be told in parts yo make it interesting.

As a story, it is better written than Jaya, though Jaya has more information packed into it. Your email address will not be published.
A definite future reread. The stories are embellished with line illustrations; the style is unique, a break from standard visual formats Amar Chitra Katha or DC comics 3. Richly illustrated with over line drawings by the author, the chapters abound with little-known details such as the names devcutt the hundred Kauravas, the worship of Draupadi as a goddess in Tamil Nadu, the stories of Astika, Madhavi, Jaimini, Aravan and Barbareek, the Mahabharata version of the Shakuntalam and the Ramayana, and the dating of the war based on astronomical data.
An Illustrated Retelling of the Mahabharata [6] ; Sita: He speaks of how, over the years, the general gaze of looking at dance and dancers has changed. His interpretation and explanations at the end of every chapter make it even better.
Devdutt Pattanaik
There are chapters in total grouped in 18 sections like parvas in the Sanskrit versioneach chapter spans pages and makes them very easy to read while on a short break. As I was wandering in the airport bookstore, I came across this book, read the back cover and was hooked. The chapters pattabaik like short stories. Devdutt Pattanaik, thank you for introducing me to the best of India and Indian culture. Devdutt adopts a very traditional stance and uses his small boxes to put in folk tales and other views on the topics.
When we need to move forward, challenge our own tradition, mythology, culture, and if need be, our religion. It’s full of history, fablesmyths and parables and I really learnt a lot of new things.
