T hat Self is all-pervading, radiant, bodiless, soreless, without sinews, pure, untainted by sin, the all-seer, the lord of the mind, transcendent and self-existent. This is the sort of information that can be found in the Anukramanis, a set of systematic indices for the Vedas which, among other things, documents the sage who heard each verse from the ishavssya, and the deity that each verse is addressed to.

Then again there is Third level of Rishi who became entitled with the position ‘Rishi’ due to mastery in respective Vedic mantras. Agni is thus the symbol of knowledge and the prayer is the call to seek the knowledge to distinguish between the right and wrong.
