I am glad it ended the way it did. So my phone bowed out. One of the best parts of this book is by far the realistic portrayal of high school and it’s inhabitants. This book kind of amazing for me. Geography Club is a story of an isolated gay kid who never thought that there were any other gays in his town besides him, but he was gwography.

They all are on Kindle, as are the three books of the second series, and the first book hartinter a spin-off series about another character in Russel’s life Gunnar’s foul-mouthed date comes across as too obnoxious “That movie was so gay,” she saysand some readers may find it difficult to believe that Kevin, with the most at stake, would join the Geography Club. It was a good representation of high school life. Well, besides Russel continuing to go out on double dates with Trish, even though he and Kevin had become boyfriends at that point.

It tells the story about a closeted young male teenager who believes he is the only gay person in his smallish high school until he meets an anonymous teen in a chat geogarphy. Second, I don’t care if it’s to “take the fall” for the gay kids – Brian appropriates their sexualities and because of this they let him into the club as some sort of honorary gay kid even though homophobia is never something that he will fear in his adult life.

If so, what did you think about it? Seems like too much work for me now! In Geography Club, a handful of brave, passionate students stumble upon a connection in which they each can be completely honest with each other, as well as with themselves, for the first time in their young lives. For the film, see Geography Club film. As events at school heat up, with Brian eventually being outed as gay even though he’s not, Russel, Geogaphy, and their friends will have to learn what’s most important in life.

Average in one way—he’s the only gay kid in school.

The story starts out strong, when Russel meets a jock from his school, Kevin, in a gay chat room; their tentative decision to meet and their awkward initial conversation convincingly portray the conflict of wanting to reach out yet being afraid of being found out.

Most of the time some of them actually annoyed haftinger.

Mig’s relationship that is so often the case. I am Brent Hartingerand I live to write. The books in Russel Middlebrook: Apr 17, Kealsey rated it did not like it Shelves: It’s better than most YA, which isn’t saying much. I listened to this audiobook when I desperately need something that can make me relax, and it worked!

Brent Hartinger’s Geography Club was waiting for me – and what a joy it proved to be!

Geography Club (Russel Middlebrook, book 1) by Brent Hartinger

Obviously one thing leads to another, and some people hook up, lie to their friends, fake being straight, do terrible things to other kids to fit in, and rise and f Substantially better than Totally Joe. Geography Club is a book that I should have read sooner geograpjy than later, because now, years after I read The God Box and Out of the Pocketwhen queer characters like Jesper Fahey and queer authors like Nina Lacour are on the scene, this book feels shallow and too In a nutshell, guy finds out he’s not the only kid who identifies as non-heterosexual and so they create a club so they can hang out.

Hell, straight people have the whole rest of the world! I also liked how it gave bbrent perspectives even though the story is told through a cljb point of view. There were also funny moments.

This book is practically a classic by now and coub one of the first books that I read that centered on a gay teenager. The only thing this book had going for it was a few clever quips, and a sometimes allegorical view of high school. This is a tender, respectful, sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking coming of age novel. The readers can really connect with him.

Not enough rising action Also, it’s really short, so it’s a pretty easy read. They’re so flawed-so flavored-and that makes them so, so real.

Ek sal beslis die res van die reeks nog drie boeke wil lees, hoewel ek hoop dat hulle anders as die eerste boek wel as e-boeke beskikbaar is. I would have liked more character development – sure we got a good representation of our main character Russel Hartinegr since he is the narrator, but many of the supporting players left a lot to be desired.

Russel Middlebrook is convinced he’s the only gay kid at his high school, but while hanging out online in a gay teen chat room, he discovers there’s someone else out clbu, and soon gay people are popping out all over the place, though not actually out.

Trivia About Geography Club R It is wrong to make fun of others for being different. These kids have problems and aren’t yet comfo YA. But Russel is young, and yes, his best characteristic is that he is real, so no perfect at all; as soon as he finds out about Kevin, he wants to gossip with his friends, and so he talks with Min, his best girlfriend, and to his surprise Min comes out to him as bisexual, and then Min brings on Terese who brings on Ike… and an impromptu club is born.

The same is true for Russel’s friends Min and Terese, who although they claim to just be really close friends, are actually in love.

Chuckling, awing, impressing, touching are what it did to me. View all 7 comments.
