The short book is so much more than that. Opening mid-action—mid-punch even, Enemy Mine begins with a soldier of Earth in hand to hand combat with an alien Abrry after their fighter jets have crashed on the surface of an uninhabited planet. You believe in the characters and the ever strengthenin just finished Barry Longyear’s Enemy Mine. Although the image of a pregnant version of Toshiro is pretty hilarious.
Pretty much a perfect story. It moves at a good pace. I’ll have to watch that again.

For a story of this length 90 pages in my book it told a story rich in lessons, in nuance, and in rough emotion. But besides that one thing, the three main characters, their dialogue, and relationships are very well-constructed and feel real and visceral.

Enemy Mine It was a guess, and since the script writer borrowed the slave-mine from Robinson Crusoe on Mars and stuck it in the movie, probably an accurate guess. One thing that bothered me a bit has been seeing Zammis a lonygear forgotten in the background in the end, I would have loved to bwrry seen him more developted.

I didn’t remember the whole thing, longhear, and so this reading was lonyear surprising. Lost at sea, scavenging among the rocks, and language problems all around, the two eventually form an accord that allows for a sense of normalcy to life. Davidge and Jeriba Shigan, whom Davidge nicknames “Jerry”, initially attempt to kill one another but quickly realize that cooperation will be the key to their survival. The story starts out great and has many great chapters that revolve around Davidge and Jerry or Davidge and Zammis as they are stranded on the planet.
Enemy Mine is worth comparing with the episode of UFO entitled Survival, were almost the same plot is used, expect that in the end the Alien is killed by the SHADO rescue party, before the astronaut can tell them he is a friend.
Unlike longyezr either version of “Arena”, however, the human and alien are not doomed to fight to the death. Lojgyear was delighted to read it again, but worried that it would not live up to the hype I’d given it. I think I preferred the movie ending. This longyesr one of my favorites, warts and all. But when tragedy strikes, a whole new set of problems must be solved. They learn to understand each other.
I happened to have watched the movie first, but I loved the book.
