If I had gotten to the end of Ravenor and not be assured there was more to come I may have ordered an Exterminatus on Ravenkr.
Abnett does a bang up job of detailing the various settings in the book and bringing the universe to life. The Inquisitor trilogy XenosMalleusHereticus was a fun ride, but this is too much of the same. But if you’re lucky to read them back to back then you’re in for an extra long treat.
Ravenor Series
This one would probably deserve a 4 and a half, like alot of books by this guy. If you are looking for a good story about an Inquisitor check out the Eisenhorn story line instead. The novels that made up this omnibus could be read on their own, with the reader not have read the previous, but I would strongly recommend that you read the Eisenhorn series first and then follow up with Ravenor.

Along with his retinue of warriors and assassins, Gideon Ravenor fights to protect an Imperium he can no longer see, hear or feel. If that’s your idea of a good time, you will love this. I’m not actually sure I ever finished this omnibus originally.
Lists with This Book. I can’t say too much about the many different opposition groups because their identities and roles reveal major spoilers. Armada Eternal Crusade Space Hulk: Big, chain-smoking and disliked by pretty much everyone in part because of his psychic blankness. Unlike a lot of that type however, he understands fully that while he’s a genius-level pysker with resources both cerebral and physical that are the envy of most men, he’s not infallible despite cheating death no less than 3 times nor immortal.
It wouldn’t make sense if you read the omnibus from the middle. I feel, however, that as great all these bits are, the Unlike many of the 4 and 5 star reviews by other readers, I would give this a 3 at best. I loved it and even though this might be considered blaspheme I enjoyed enjoyed it more than the Eisenhorn series.
This is a book that you should read at once.
Not only do we get excellent books like this, but he enriches the 40k setting considerably as he has also done in the Horus Heresy and Gaunt’s Ghosts settings. Personally, I enjoyed the Eisenhorn collection better, but the Ravenor set is still a good read, albeit a bit slow at times. This book was fantastic and filled with great action, twists and characters.
