The point was for them to stand up for themselves but the heroines who like take charge heroes come across as weak and unlikeable. But first of all there is the vexed matter of the custody of the pumpkin. I just love stories involving The Empress of Blandings. Wodehouse’s books are as good as Jeeves’s pick-me-ups to raise one from the dumps.

Only when all the Yes-Men have yessed, do the Nodders begin to function. It is worth reading not only by a Wodehouse fan but also by one who loves good simple humour that all of his stories offer. Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse, KBE, was a comic writer who enjoyed enormous popular success during a career of more than seventy years and continues to be widely read over 40 years after his death.

I am less enamored with Wodehouse’s Mulliner stories. Blandinsg, there is a certain amount of repetition, even whole paragraphs – principally character descriptions – in different books among the first three.
