This is a well-written and densely plotted story that features characters with disabilities in a positive and prominent manner.
However, human interaction often is predictable and there were several clues provided along the way, which was perhaps why they seemed that way.
For all it’s flaws it’s an entertaining book, with an engaging story and wonderful world and characters. Cover art is provided by Todd Lockwood.
With it, he will be able to become the Halycon—a prophesied savior of magical language—instead of what he is now, the Storm Petrel—a prophesied destroyer of magical language. As the protagonist of the previous book adjusts to his new abilities, seeking fulfilment in the full recovery of his faculties. Charlton brings out a great tale, one that moves swiftly from point to point without letting up on the urgency. On a scale from one to ten, Spellbound gets full ten points from me for being an entertaining, imaginative, detailed and emotional fantasy book.
We got airships, flying kites, structures, constructs, organisms, dragons, medical tools and procedures, well the whole world really made up of some sort of prose. All their numbers diminished and no one told me? Refresh and try again. That’s a simplified version of the plot, but it is complex and difficult to summarize without spoilers. Aside from knowing what her character looks like, we know what type of person she is, her aspirations and her failures, as well as her frustrations and motivations.
Spellbound is right up there with my most entertaining novels so far this year.

It is one of the best fantasy books I’ve read the past two years. Factor in all of the other details—world-building, characters, subplots—that readers have to process as well, and the inclusion of a glossary would have been tremendously helpful.
I’m very grateful this was written and that I managed to find it.
Most of the characters from the last book are in this one, with the introduction of apellbound new ones. There was the first third, then the second half of the second third, then the first three eighths of the final third and the next eighth and then the following two eighths The story is loaded with interesting characters, a story that works well and that comes unexpectedly at points, and a world that is worth returning to often.

I did not enjoy this as much as I did the first it was not as unique but from the point of view of continuing the story it was brilliant nonetheless. No, make that lava. Compared to the magic system, world-building once again lacks depth, but there have been noticeable improvements. As a sequel should, Spellbound ramps up the story from Spellwright, and smooth over many of its faults.
There charltton not a dry moment to be seen. I’m fascinated to see what happens next and will be following every word with cgarlton absorption of an apprentice spellwright. I had completely forgotten what she looked like, so spellobund was a shell of a character in my mind, not quite vividly drawn as the rest of them.
This second book of the trilogy moved the action of the story along, and I did like that about this book. The cast of characters in this book is varied and complex.
I’m not blkae why there were kobolds in diminishing numbers who randomly just fell out of the story. Nicodemus is charltom no means absent from this novel, he just isn’t the main focus of it, as he was in Charlton’s debut. All in all, it is a scene that I would love to see acted out on the big screen. Be the first to discover new talent! And of course we see the magical language Nicodemus has learned from the kobolds, which is bound to darkness. Book 3 of the Spellwright Trilogy.
Tensions rise as the city becomes overrun by various political, religious and magical factions who have their own beliefs about the looming Disjunction. What if This epic fantasy adventure is about magical systems and how those imbued with magic have to cope with the chzrlton it bends and warps their lives spellboune unimaginable ways. It’s quite evident that Charlton has become a better writer since his debut, Spellwrightand the sequel for all intents and purposes is a better novel than the first one.
Spellbreaker : Book 3 of the Spellwright Trilogy
Fran and Cyrus were with each other for such a long time, perhaps the first half of the book, and Nico — a Nico who the reader doesn’t know very well, as he has changed greatly from the last book — seems to slide awkwardly into the picture and I simply don’t get why Fran loved him as much as she seemed to by the end. So for me, this book and its prior were an odd mix of too simple in characters and too complex in political storytelling. Other books in this series.
Shannon-the-ghost says agonizingly blablabla and two sentences later the same agonizingly appears. Highly recommended for fans of magical fantasy, looking for something original and unique.
Nico is a spellcaster whose power undoes and subverts the spells of those who try casting spells against him, as he is unable to accurately spell his spells, thus echoing the pain and confusion Charlton must have endured as a child struggling with severe dyslexia.
But I’m not 14 anymore and maybe I just need to stop being a dork and learn to live like a real boy. I got it and then I was stupid again.
