The atmospheric corrosion resistance of this steel in most environments is substantially better than carbon steel with or without copper addition Note 2.
For a complete listing of all tubing sizes produced by Valmont, please visit our Steel Tubing Product Catalog. Referenced Documents purchase separately The documents listed below are referenced within the subject standard but are not provided as part of the standard. This standard is issued under the fixed designation A ; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year of original adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision.
Twist tolerances for square and rectangular structural tubing shall be indicated. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.

Historical Version s – view previous versions of standard. As a standard under ASTM A, electric resistance welded tubing is normally provided without removal of inside flash. When properly exposed to the atmosphere, this steel can be used bare unpainted for many applications. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. With the additional elements such as those noted above, the added strength of the steel itself allows for a lighter wall thickness of steel to be used than for carbon steel tubing in x847 to meet structural physical requirements.
ASTM A | a steel
When this steel a874 used in welded construction, the welding procedure shall be suitable for the steel and the intended service. For lighter wall thicknesses, elongation will be by agreement. ABecause of the degree to which phosphorus segregates, roduct analysis for this element is not technologically appropriate for rephosphorized steels unless misapplication is clearly indicated.
ASTM does not give any warranty express or implied or make any representation that the contents of this abstract are accurate, complete or up to date. Note 2 — For methods of estimating the atmospheric corrosion resistance of low alloy steels, see Guide G or actual data. It is not required however for squares and rectangles or other asrm under A Link to Active This link will always route to astk current Active version of the standard.
Chemical composition Grade Mfg.
Tubing having other dimensions may be furnished provided such tubing complies with all other requirements of this specification. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently axtm the other.
Heat and product analysis shall be performed wherein steel materials shall conform to the required chemical composition for carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulphur, and copper. NOTE 2-For methods of estimating the atmospheric corrosion resistance fo low alloy steels see Guide G or actual data. This abstract is a brief summary of the referenced standard.
The atmospheric corrosion resistance of this steel in most envi-ronments is substantially better than carbon steel with or without copper addition Note 2.
This specification covers standard requirements for cold-formed welded and seamless high-strength, low-alloy round, square, rectangular, or special shaped structural tubing for welded, riveted, or bolted construction of bridges and buildings and for general structural purposes where high strength and enhanced atmospheric corrosion resistance are required.
When properly exposed to the atmosphere, this steel can be used bare unpainted for many applications. Length tolerance for structural tubing shall be in accordance with the specified values.
Outside dimension tolerances for square and rectangular tubing shall not exceed the specified plus and minus tolerances. AApplies to specified wall thicknesses 0.
ASTM A847 Pipes Manufacturer
ATolerances include allowance for convexity or concavity. If flash control is required, please specify at time of quotation or order placement.

According to ASTM A, the weld seam location for square, rectangle and other special shaped tubing shall not be located within the corner radius unless specified by the customer or manufacturer.
Note 1 — Products manufactured to this specification may not be suitable for those applications where low temperature notch toughness properties may be important, such as dynamically loaded elements in welded structures, etc.
It is informational only and not an official part of the standard; the full text of the standard itself must be referred to for its use and application. Round and shaped tubing shall meet the required tensile properties such as tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation. When this steel is used in welded construction. For rectangular sections, the tolerance calculated for the larger flat dimension shall also apply asttm the smaller flat dimension. Tubing having other dimen-sions may be furnished provided such tubing complies with all other requirements of this specification.
NOTE 1-Products manufactured to this specification may not be suitable for those applications where low temperature notch toughness properties may be important, such as dynamically loaded elements in welded stuctures, etc. BIf chromium and silicon contents are each 0. Please contact one a874 our knowledgeable sales staff members who will assist you with any further questions regarding this specification or with your specific tubing requirements.
Under ASTM A, the corner radius for square and rectangular tubing shall not exceed three times the corner radius.
