I can only conclude that must have been a bad year in general for juvenile fiction. It ireen written from a child’s perspective and will certainly hold children’s interest but, as the book itself points out, even children experienced the effects of war.

This was a great story about the Civil War and would be especially good for fifth graders studying American history.
